Is homosexuality a nature or nurture?
God created man and woman out of man and he said two shall become one flesh; a man shall leave his mother and father and hold fast to his wife (Gen 21-24). Taking this into consideration and the fact that male and female external sex organs are complimentary, we are right to conclude that God never created man to be homosexual in thought or action.
When our first parents sinned, the whole human race was affected by sin. What does that have to do with the sexuality of human race? (Eph. 2:3) “Among whom we once all lived, in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath.” The sin of Adam was imputed to the human race, therefore we all by nature are children of condemnation and will not yield to the will of God.
Homosexuality is a sin just like other sins and should not be treated as unique. Verse 2 of Ephesians 2 says we followed the course of this world. Since we are by nature fallen, we are prone to follow evil ways. Since we are sinners by nature, “The Biblical worldview is that the whole world and human beings themselves are polluted by sin which has affected our bodies (and this must surely include our genes), our minds, our wills and our feelings. Consequently our biology, our thoughts, our choices and our desires are not what they were intended to be.”
Sinful man have sinful passions, a sinner by nature will nurture sinful ways for they are appealing to his person, his thoughts, desires and feelings, homosexuality is one of those sinful passions, as lust is, as greed and envy are.
“There is often an unstated assumption that strong feelings should determine behaviour, whereas in fact this is not accepted in almost any other area of life. We do not believe for example that a strong desire to smoke or drink should be rewarded with the provision of cigarettes or alcohol. Nor do we accept that lust legitimises adultery or that envy sanctions stealing or greed.”Ken Brownell
No, man is not born gay or lesbian, but because man is fallen and his fallenness affects every part of man, therefore man can have homosexual desires or passions which can only be overcome by God”™s intervention.
“Many of the desires we have, if acted upon, lead to damaging not only other human beings, but ourselves as well. As the Bible succinctly puts it: “˜there is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death”™ (Proverbs 14:12), or “˜the heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure”™ (Jeremiah 17:9). God calls us to resist evil desires, not to act on them, but rather to obey him with the strength his Spirit gives.” Ken Brownell
