Is the Holy Spirit God?

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. Many people know so little about the Holy Spirit as He is less preached on pulpits today, some know Him as a force while others know Him as just the power of God, but of His Person hood and Divinity little is known. The Apostle creed states that “and we believe in the Holy Spirit”, although it does not go into details we find that in the early church when it was written, they clearly understood and identify Him  as the third member of the Trinity.

Its inappropriate to refer to Him as “it”, He is not a force as the Jehovah's witness say or any other object, He is God and He is a person, He can speak (John_16:13) , He can be grieved (Eph_4:30), He has a will (1Cointhians 12:11), etc.

Why we Believe He is God

He is Eternal

Heb 9:14  How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

He is Omnipresent

Psa 139:7-10  Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

He raises from the dead

Rom 8:11  But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

He is the agent of creation

Gen 1:2  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Gen 1:26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:

The above given reasons proves that He is God and not just a force. He possesses all the divine attributes, He is fully God and equal with God. He should be worshiped by all believers without doubt.

Soli Deo Gloria
